Maxie's Story
So you want to hear my story? Well, grab a cup of tea and sit back, it is a tale of woes and happiness.
See, I started out my life with a not-so-very-nice family. When I was little, around 1 or 2 years old, this family took me way out in the country and left me to fend for myself. But being the smart, little, determined doggie that I am, I started making my way back home. I had reached the exact subdivision that I lived in, but I no longer wanted to stay with that family.
Suddenly, it started to rain, and it rained hard! I found myself on the front lawn of some other people’s house. There was a real nice lady there who took me in, fed me, bathed me, and got all my little mats and dirties out. I wasn’t in very good shape at that time. I had done something to hurt one of my eyes. I can’t recall in my old age now what it was. The nice lady took me to the vet, and they gave me some shots and said that I’d never be able to use that eye much anymore. They decided to leave it in, though, because it wouldn’t hurt anything. I guess I was glad of that.
There was no question after that, I had found a new home. This nice ladies’ parents lived in that house, and it was nice and quiet. They loved me very much, and treated me like a prince. I lived there for quite some time, until they died. I was very sad then, but the nice lady came back and got me. I moved in with her shortly after.
It wasn’t very quiet at her house. I had gotten so used to being an only doggie, that I didn’t much like having to share her home with her other doggie, an English bulldog named MattieRose. Me and her just didn’t get along. So this nice lady contacted some other nice people, and I went to live at a rescue. They called this place Have A Heart Adopt A Pet Rescue, and it was in Blairsville, GA.
I stayed a little while there, and although they were nice to me, I longed for a home. Then, the lady of my dreams showed up! She was just coming to look at me, and had driven so far – all the way from Knoxville, TN! I charmed her first thing. She fell in love with me, and took me home to live with her.
At first, we stayed in an apartment. It was different, but I liked it there. We would take rides in her car (my favorite thing!) and take walks around the complex. There were lots of people, and they all just loved to say hello to me! I decided she was going to be a pretty wonderful Lady.
She took me to the vet, not long after I adopted her, and I had to have my right eye removed. They also cleaned my teeth, but had to remove all of my top ones. Old age will do that to a feller. This doesn’t keep me from eating though, and my Lady thought I was so cute with my tongue sticking out.
My Lady bought a house, and it was great fun living there. I missed my friends, but I acquired lots new ones – especially a young, little Papillion next door. Her name is Crystal, and I loved to go out on play dates with her. Between you and me though, I think she was a little on the jealous side. She just wouldn't let me out of her sight!
My Lady adopted another peke not too long ago. Her name is Lil' Bit, though I wasn't too sure about her.
