Hi! I'm Rosco the little doggie. I'm a Pekingese and my
ancestors are from China. I've never been to China though. I live in
Tennessee, out in the country. I haven't always lived in the country,
I am a city doggie.
You see, I just got down on my luck one day. I made a few bad investments
and the next thing I knew, I was out on the streets. I found a soft
spot to sleep under an old abandoned pickup truck in a commercial section
of the city. Day after day, I would evade the humane officers. Fortunately,
there wasn't much traffic in that part of town. I don't always look
before I cross the street you know.
A homeless people lived in the truck and I would sometimes get some
scraps of food he didn't eat. There were mud puddles to lap the drank.
I did all right for a few weeks, but I was hungry, dirty, and matted
to the skin.
One day I was sitting in the sun next to an old signpost. A big people
came up and kept looking at me. I didn't know if I should run or what.
But he just went inside the building and talked to another people, not
as big. She came out and gave me cheese. I love cheese, but my doctor
says I shouldn't eat it. I was too hungry to care what a doctor thought.
Anyways, she took me, fed me, gave me a bath, and cut out all the matted
fur.
That big people took me home with him. Then another people, not as big,
took me to a doctor. The doc checked me real good. He looked me over
for chips and tattoos and the like. When he didn't find any, he gave
me some shots and gave me a clean bill of health. Then the peoples,
well they took me to live in the country with them. They called me Rosco.
I didn't have the heart to tell them that wasn't my name. I kinda liked
the sound of it though.
So if you're ever in the country in Tennessee, and if I see you, I'm
pretty sure I'll bark at you.
